An iconic venue
The lifelong dream and namesake of businessman Wilbur Foshay, this Art Deco masterpiece was the tallest building west of the Mississippi upon its completion in 1929. Nearly 25,000 guests, including cabinet members and congressmen, attended the dedication. On the street outside, the military gave 19-gun salutes and John Philip Sousa conducted the march he composed for the opening. Inside, visitors thrilled to African mahogany, a fountain, Italian marble, intricate engravings, and terrazzo floors reflecting the glint from gold-plated doorknobs and jewel-like inlays.
